Socially Distant Summer Fun

We have been getting creative this summer! While we continue to navigate our “new normal,” it can be difficult to maintain social distance as people flock to well known outdoor areas and activities.

Here are some activities to consider when you’re looking to take the whole family outside for some fresh air and good times:

Movie Night at the Drive In: Upstate New York has a number of these relics of another time. We love the nearby one in Hyde Park, where they showed JAWS and Tremor just the other day. We recently caught a show and just before we called in an order of lobster rolls from Millhouse Brewing Co. for takeout to enjoy during the show. You can enjoy from the comfort of your vehicle or bring some folding chairs (and mosquito repellant!) for outdoor viewing. Check out Chronogram’s roundup of drive-in’s in the area.

Plan a Picnic at Opus 40: Located in Saugerties, NY Opus 40 features 6.5 acres of a walkabout sculpture garden and meadow as well as more than 50 acres of walkable trails. Now you can kick off your weekend with a sunset picnic on the grounds, courtesy of Dutch Ale House. On Saturdays, you can kick it up a notch with cocktail delivery from Stockage Tavern.

Explore the Lesser Known Parks: Think outside of the box and explore! Now is the time to pick a point on the GPS and just wander. Hudson Valley Magazine has put together a great list of hidden outdoor gems to spark your imagination.
